5 Best Dividend Stocks To Watch Right Now

For more than 45 years, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) has declined to pay dividends. A vocal group of shareholders would like that to change. But chief executive officer Warren Buffett has repeatedly expressed his views on the topic: No dice. e feels he can earn a higher return for shareholders if he invests the company retained earnings, rather than if the shareholders did it themselves, says David Kass, a finance professor at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Kass, a Berkshire shareholder who regularly attends the company annual meeting (often with students in tow), will have a prime seat as the matter comes to a vote at this year annual meeting, scheduled for May 3. It is virtually certain that Berkshire shareholders will reject the resolution.

The upside to Cameron International is the strong order flow and backlog of around $11.5 billion for subsea products and services. BP, Petroleo Brasileiro (PBR), StatoilHydro (STO) and Chevron (CVX) have all made orders. Another good characteristic is the geographical diversity of the orders: North America, Latin America, Asia/Pacific and Middle East. Most importantly, the Deepwater Horizon incident elicited a higher safety standard creating a favorable context for equipment developers and providers like Cameron International.

But weakness extended throughout the commodities-related Dow stocks. Oil giants Chevron (NYSE: CVX  ) and ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM  ) are both down more than 1.5% on fears that China's slowdown will cascade throughout the global economy, reducing overall levels of industrial activity and thereby removing key support for the relatively high oil prices that have persisted even through the sluggish economic recovery of the past several years. Meanwhile, Alcoa (NYSE: AA  ) has dropped 1.5%, following its typical pattern of tracking China's economic health. Yet in the longer term, if a slowdown further weakens aluminum prices, then it could perhaps break the backs of Chinese aluminum producers that have contributed to the glut of supply on the market.

These new market opportunities have the potential to actually boost the performance of T stock over the next couple of years, too.

    Chevron (CVX)

Chevron (CVX) is down 9% since Dec. 27. CVX stock has a current dividend yield of 3.5% and is trading at a fairly cheap 10 times forward earnings. CVX stock has gained ground this week despite an explosion at a fracking well in Pennsylvania on Tuesday — and the questionable PR tactic of offering free pizza to residents living near the site.
